Paul continues to instruct Timothy (and by extension us) how the church is to function in light of the truths of the gospel. Today’s text, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, is one of the key verses (with Titus 1) for understanding God’s plan for church government. This message is an overview of biblical eldership and covers verse 1.

The church is to be governed by:

1) A plurality of elders
2) By men who desire to serve under the headship of Christ
3) Men who are able to teach God’s Word to God’s people
