The message of Daniel 8 is that we must live in the midst of enemies while we wait for the end when there will be restoration. The problem is we don’t know how long the wait will be. Given this, we need to not spend our time worrying about the future or dwelling on the past, but we need to be taking care of work God has given us today.

From Daniel 8 we learn the nature of the evil we face and how we are to live in this time between the times.
