Success in any endeavor in life requires preparation. This is especially true for the Christian life. We must prepare those who come to faith after us for the reality of the difficulties of the Christian life. Those who have been walking with our Lord for a time know that life is often hard. In fact, Paul tells the Philippian church that they received two gifts at conversion: faith and suffering (Phil 1:29).

Daniel is a man acquainted with the difficulties of a life of faith. In chapter 10 he is introduced to important themes that prepare him to receive the final messages of the book in chapters 11 and 12. We learn along with Daniel how to prepare for the battles of the life of faith.
