Paul begins his letter to Timothy by telling Timothy to “wage the good warfare” (1 Tim 1:18). Now at the end of the letter he comes back to the theme and tells him to “fight the good fight” (1 Tim 6:12). Both encouragements to battle involve the faith. We need to see the Christian life as a fight in order to be prepared to defend the faith (or what Paul calls the “deposit” in verse 20).
